3 Hobbies to Boost Your Creativity

For many people, “work” is a place they go to every day in order to support themselves and their families. If you are not one of the lucky ones that get to make a living doing something you love, then you need a hobby! A hobby can be a wonderful creative outlet for those who work a mundane job, and can also help to reduce stress.

Consider these 3 hobbies which can be an incredibly satisfying creative outlet, and are not difficult to get started with.

(BONUS: If you get good at these creative hobbies, you can also make great money as well!)

3 Hobbies to Boost Your Creativity

Photography

If you have a smartphone, you are probably already a photographer to some degree. Photography is one of the easiest hobbies to break into, and you don’t need much more than just a camera to get started. Photography has a way of making you view the world in a whole new way, sparking your overall creativity. There are advanced photography courses available online to anyone who is serious about learning more about this incredibly satisfying and fulfilling hobby.

Journaling/Writing

From the time we are in grade school we have been taught to fear writing. There are so many rules to break, and so many exceptions to those rules, and then there’s the formatting, but different papers get formatted differently, and on and on and on…

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Journaling and writing are an excellent way to get the creative juices flowing and there are very little “rules” if you are just writing for yourself! Whether you are keeping a personal journal, blogging, or creating new stories of your own, writing is an excellent way to make our brains work creatively and have something to show for it when we are finished. Nobody is going to go over it with a red pen, and nobody even has to see it if you don’t want them to!

As a bonus, writing is a fabulous way to safely and productively process the everyday stress and anxiety we encounter in our day-to-day lives.

Cooking/Baking

This is one creative hobby that those around you will thank you for picking up! Cooking and baking is an excellent creative outlet because it affects all the senses; taste, smell, and touch are obvious, but also consider the visual creativity of plating your dish and the sound of something sizzling on the stove!

Taking up cooking and baking as a creative hobby also has an additional benefit- slashing your food bill! Cooking your own food is an excellent way to save money, be healthy, and feel fulfilled creatively.

So Go Be Creative!

Remember that we can never totally eliminate stress from our lives. An appropriate amount of stress can actually be a good thing, because it serves to keep us on top of our responsibilities. The important thing is to have a creative outlet, in order to manage our stress. Starting a new creative hobby is a great way to accomplish this!

Creative Ways to Cool Off

Summer is rapidly approaching and you won’t want your creative juices hindered by the sweltering heat. Instead, consider some of the creative ways to cool off listed in this piece. You are sure to find something that suits your creative flair and stay cool desires. If not, we feel certain that creatives like you can invent additional concepts.

Before you get too creative though, don’t neglect the obvious, learn more about energy star ceiling fans. After all, ceiling fans are a popular way to keep things cool in your home. They can aid in energy efficiency and even add some attractive ambiance to an otherwise boring room. Plus, ceiling fans can help you get the most out of your AC unit. Now that you know all that, it’s time to get into the creative side of keeping cool.

Creative Ways to Cool Off

Ingenious Ways to Beat the Heat

Summer is around the corner and many of us are picturing picnics, time on the beach, and lots of sweet iced tea. But, the truth is, we are going to have to face the gnarly side of summer too: the heat. When it gets so hot you’re not sure you can sleep through the night, you’ll need these ingenious ways to beat the heat:

  1. Pick cotton. We know you might like satin and polyester sheets, but keep those for cooler temps. They are designed to trap heat. Instead, pick cotton, a breathable material, for all your summer time bed-clothes.
  2. Get some freezer burn. Not really, of course. What we are suggesting is that you take your sheets off and stick them in the freezer, or fridge, for a couple hours prior to bedtime. Put them in a plastic bag first to keep them from absorbing smells and moisture.
  3. Freeze that hot water bottle. It might do wonders for you in the winter when you’re trying to stay toasty, but now it can be multi-functional. It will become an ice pack that’s bed friendly.
  4. Think smart. If you are without AC, and you’ve got box fans in the windows, point them out so they suck all the hot air away from you. Then switch the direction of your ceiling fans so they pull the hot air up.
  5. Act like an Egyptian. Believe it or not, the Egyptians used to sleep with dampened sheets. We suggest you do this over some kind of mattress protection though. Read this.
  6. Be free. Wear as little as is possible when it comes to bedtime. Make sure whatever you choose to wear is made out of cotton, as that’s the coolest fabric currently available.
  7. Get “back in the day.” Fill a roasting pan with ice and then put it in front of a fan. You’ll be impressed with how cool the air headed your way will feel.
  8. Cross breezes are good. Open a window and position a fan across from it. Of course, you could set up a slew of fans and get the airflow all kinds of boisterous. Learn more.
  9. Try a hammock. You don’t have to be Tarzan to enjoy a hammock. The airflow afforded by this kind of bedroom set up will certainly keep you cool. And we don’t just mean in the temperature department.

How nature affects your creativity

Creativity comes from within but there are things that can bring it to its full potential like your surroundings and your inspiration. If you are feeling a bit down in the dumps and also blocked from your creative side you might want to get your boots on and step outside for a breath of fresh air. Nature doesn’t only boost your health but also your creativity. Click here to read more about the health benefits of spending time in nature.

I work from home and the best thing for me is to be able to walk outside on a nice day and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on my face. I don’t want to be tied by office hours and moving away from my keyboard is almost a pre-requisite. There is always something inspirational about the smell of freshly cut grass and the first flowers of spring. I find an awakening feeling by walking in the rain that sparks my creativity right away.

How nature affects your creativity

My husband is in the engineering field and looked up Offroad service utility trucks Australia where he purchased a dumper vehicle at an excellent price and started working outside. He said that he never felt better than when he started working in the outdoors. An office is limiting but some of us don’t have a choice. It is however a good idea to go out for a breath of fresh air even if you are office bound. If you are not a smoker you can still take a few minutes to enjoy the sunshine and soak up some vitamin D. It has actually been scientifically proven that 50% of people feel more creative after spending time in nature. If you are removed from all the tech and mobile phones you have a chance to tap into your creative mind and come up with ideas that will give you your best creations yet.

The artists and writers in the old days didn’t have access to television or the internet and had to settle for trees, still life and wild life. This is exactly why most of the masterpieces we so love was painted and written in that era. It is as if art that is done outside is calmer and more positive. If you are a painter and you haven’t enjoyed painting outside yet you should definitely try it. Click here to get tips on painting a still portrait.

As a writer I love writing poetry under my favorite tree while lounging in my hammock chair. The birds, the breeze and every sound and smell just makes it easier for me to be more imaginative and creative. It makes perfect sense that nature is most probably the biggest canvas with the most art splattered across it and every day we are lucky enough to enjoy it and recreate it in our art. So next time you feel uninspired grab your sunhat and a book and pencil and step outside for some fresh air. You might just surprise yourself with your discovery.

Ideas to help you organize a messy craft room

Artists are messy or are they? You don’t necessarily have to be. It makes sense that you will feel more creative and inspired if your art room is organized. There really is such a thing as organized chaos but unfortunately this does not mean we have a ticket to let our craft rooms turn into a hoarding paradise. In most cases it is the norm that craft rooms are messy with craft items and materials lying everywhere. It is fun to have a craft or hobby but not so much fun to keep our working area clean and organized. With tiny items like buttons, ribbons and other materials we decide the effort isn’t worth it and just leave things as they are. In most cases you will enjoy your craft more if your supplies are organized and if everything has its place. Click here to take a look at some great examples of craft or hobby rooms.

Ideas to help you organize a messy craft room

If you enjoy sewing you must know all about the frustration of dealing with material scraps and cotton. Make sure you get lidded bins to keep everything in its place. You might also want to get hold of a thread catcher which will eliminate the problem of having to deal with pieces of thread lying everywhere. There are many ways to make your sewing room neater and more comfortable. Take a look at westral.com.au for the best blinds to compliment your sewing room. It is easy to obtain a quote and you get to choose from a variety of patterns and styles for your custom made blinds. Blinds are a better option for a craft room simply because you decide how much light you would like to let in. There is nothing worse than having to deal with too much sunlight whilst painting.

Knitting and crocheting can also turn out to be quite a messy hobby. Make sure you keep yarn; wool organized and rolled up for the next time you want to use it. Get plastic tubes or baskets to keep everything in order and take a bit of time to catalogue all the items that you have in your craft room. You might also want to add a few shelves to have more storage space. There are many ways that you can store needles and pins so make sure you make yourself a cute cushion or container for that. If you are a painter you can also strive for the perfect studio. Just because there is a stigma to artists that they are untidy doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be. It is bad for your paints to be exposed so make sure you seal all caps and that it is stored in a cool and dry place. It is rather expensive to have to buy new paints and for that reason save yourself a bunch by keeping everything stored effectively. Click here to learn more about storing your paint and brushes.

Creative Ways to Elevate Date Night

Whether you have been married for years or only a year, date nights are supposed to be special. This is time you dedicate to spending together and fully being with each other alone. However, it is easy to end up in a rut after even just a few date nights. But you don’t have to stay in that rut forever.

In fact, elevating your date night can be a simple if you recognize your patterns and are ready to do something about them. To help you come up with some ideas to get you started, see which of these categories you fall into and consider the associated tips for breaking out of the mold.

Always the Same Restaurants

Most people end up with a favorite restaurant or two after they have been in a particular city or town for a while. And while there is nothing wrong with visiting a tried-and-true location, it can be fun to try something new too.

But how do you find a new restaurant to try? There are actually a lot of ways. First, you can jump on a review site like TripAdvisor and see which places rate as must-see destinations in your town. You can also shake things up by heading to the nearest city from your own to see what is available there.

Creative Ways to Elevate Date Night

There are also random restaurant selection websites and apps that can add an element of excitement and chance to your destination. Just enter in your current location, any driving distance or cost restrictions, and see what fate has in store.

Like Any Other Night Out

Sometimes date night and a night out with the family don’t feel that different. Maybe you get home from work, drop your briefcase or lunch box, and simply head right back out the door. But taking the time to get dressed up before date night can actually make the entire evening feel more special.

Now, that doesn’t mean everything has to be incredibly formal, just something a bit more stylish than you would usually do can do the trick. Try anything from fun vintage outfits to some of the latest design trends, just make sure it is fancier than you would wear otherwise.

The Family Car is No Fun

A fun way to elevate your date night is to change how you get to and from the date. For example, consider hiring a town car or limousine to manage all of the driving duties, and spend that time relaxing instead. It can be a fun treat and will make you both feel like the evening is more special than ever.

Plus, hiring a car guarantees you have access to a designated driver. So, if you want to spring for champagne at the restaurant or to stop for a few cocktails at a piano bar, you can do so without having to worry about managing your ride home after the fact. And your car gets to stay safely at home too.

Now that you see what a little creativity can go a long way, you can come up with your own ways to elevate your date night. So, don’t be afraid to try something new or go out on a limb to make your time together special.

Travelling is great for the soul and if you are a creative person you will know that experiencing other cultures and crafts from different countries is an enriching and motivating experience. There are so many different ways that people make beautiful creations in the world. For example visiting a glass-blowing factory in Venice and marveling at the beautiful creations that you see there. The same rule applies to every country that you visit. By learning how things are made and what they consider as art you are gaining knowledge and you are showing the locals a form of respect by finding out more about their craft. Experiencing different cultures will enhance your creativity

If you go to Africa you might enjoy the beautiful clay sculptures or the colorful beaded work that you will find there. It is in our nature to be curious about new things and you might just impress everyone at home with your newfound artistic skills. There are reasons why we feel creative when we are enjoying a holiday or trip to a different country. Take a look at Rustic Pathways. This is a foundation that sends young people around the world to take part in various community projects. This really makes an impact on the people that they are helping and on their personal wellbeing. By helping they will get to experience what other cultures consider as art and craft.

There have been a couple of studies that have proven how students that live abroad actually are more creative because they get to adapt to other cultures. This is truly enriching for them and allows them to be more open-minded which is one of the golden rules in the art world is obviously. This means that if you are feeling down in the dumps and lacking inspiration you should consider taking a trip to an exciting and new location that you have never been to. Click here to read more about other benefits of travelling. Learning experiences can only open your mind and give you the opportunity to be your best artistic self. Remember that if you decide to do this and actually go on a trip that there will be differences and that someone else’s opinion of art might not be the same as yours. Be respectful and learn as much as you can while sharing your craft and your skill with the people that you interact with and learn from. Knowledge is a gift that we can share for no cost at all.

Some Creative Ideas to Have A Well Decorated Room

There are times when you do not want to leave your house. You just want to stay inside your room and unwind because you are already tired. Perhaps you have gone through a whole week of work and you just want to lie down and just think happy thoughts.

Your room should be that one place inside your house wherein you feel most comfortable in but this will not be possible if you would not make an effort to decorate it the best way that you can. It will help if the rest of your home is comfortable. In fact when you check quality homes around Houston, you will find that there are a lot of homes with nicely decorated rooms. Even if the homes are nice, you still want to add your personal touch to the house that you are living in. Your room should get the most changes too because it will help.

Some Creative Ideas to Have A Well Decorated Room

Here are some of the creative ideas that you can do so that you will have a well decorated room that you can be proud of. A room that you can be comfortable in.

  1. Paint your room the color that you want. You can take a look at different design tips and tricks but all of these things will not work if the color of your room is not something that you like. Even if articles on design are saying that pink is not considered to be trendy at present time, you should not care if you truly want to have a pink room.
  2. Add something different to your whole room. If you would like to break the monotony of your room, the best option that you have is to add a plant or even a branch that can add a nice touch to your room. It can enhance the design and the theme of your room too.
  3. Have a bookshelf installed in your room. The bookshelf does not have to contain books although if you are a bookworm, make sure that you place all of your favorite books on the shelf. It will make your whole room look cozy. If you are not too fond of books, your bookshelf can be a shelf wherein you can place memorabilia of your past travels or of things that you are proud of.
  4. Choose the right lights for your room. Your room should have more than one light. You should have a light that you will turn on when you want your whole room to be illuminated and you can also have a type of light that will only light up a certain portion of your room. Having different lights inside the room will change your room’s overall feel.
  5. Have something that you have created inside your home. It does not matter whether it is a cross stitch or a simple painting that you have created. What matters is you have made an effort to create something. You can display it in your room to show ownership.

Can you still think of other creative ideas that you can do to make your room more personal? Feel free to share your own thoughts.

Show Off Your Creative Side with Face Painting

It’s hard to get people to recognize your creativity.  You either have to pluck out a phone and show someone some of your artworks or you have to promote like crazy on social media.  Face painting is a terrific way to inform everyone you meet, instantly of your creative capabilities.  Any occasion is good for a face painting session.  You can wear good face paint for performances, dress up parties, market days, wacky days, casual days, birthdays, for bachelorette parties or any other occasion you can think of.  You are never too old or too young to wear face paint.  All you need is the right theme, good skill and the right tools and you can show off your creative skills at any time.

Show Off Your Creative Side with Face Painting

Get face paint

You cannot simply use ordinary paint on your face.  Normal paint has a lot of chemicals that can harm or stain your skin. You should invest in some good quality face paint so your skin will be taken good care off no matter how long you wear the paint.

Get a good makeup set

Normal makeup is a great alternative or addition to face paint.  You can add some glitter to your face paint with makeup or simply use makeup only.  Makeup might be a bit more expensive than face paint but is specially developed for long wear on skin which means your skin will be better protected than with face paints.

Invest in a good facial cream

Apply a good facial cream before you apply face paint so your skin won’t dry out or get stained as a result.

A good set of makeup brushes is a must

With a good set of makeup brushes you can create any face paint pattern your heart desires.  Sound Body Life is a great resource for the best makeup brush sets on the market.  The sets include large brushes for powders and even small or wide brushes for different types of strokes and for delicate work.  You can use the makeup brushes with normal makeup or let your creative juices flow and turn your face into a work of art with some face paint.  With a good set of makeup brushes you can work as delicately as you need to get your unique face painting done.

Look for great face painting ideas online

The internet is a good place to find inspiration for your face paintings.  You can check out the Google search engine results or visit Pinterest and YouTube for some fantastic face painting tutorials.  The tutorials are great for teaching you how to do face painting and you can look for terrific face paint ideas.  There are tons of different face paint concepts that you can try.  You can go for a tribal face paint look, turn yourself into a live comic book character, cute up by converting your face into that of a puppy or deer or scare the heck out of everyone by giving some zombie face paintings a try.  The internet is loaded with tons of fantastic ideas for any occasion.

Creative Minds and Insomnia – What Is The Link?

One of the biggest reasons why so many creative people and artists suffer from mental illnesses like depressions is due to the fact that they have different sleeping patterns than most people.  Creative people are more likely to struggle to fall asleep and a most creative people don’t sleep quite as well.  Some even think that insomnia is the exact reason why creative people are interested in art.  The belief is that your mind is trying to make up for the lack of sleep and the lack of dreaming by creating physical art.  The lack of sleep might be good for your creative senses but is in fact terrible for your physical and especially your mental health.  Lots of artists in the past have suffered from mental illnesses and insomnia.  Vincent van Gogh, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe and Groucho Marx are just a few examples of famous creative people who suffer or suffered from insomnia.
